Call for delivery

1 Jun

pizza sign.jpgPizza Hut was the one who started it all. One telephone number for delivery service hammered into our brains through a catchy jingle. Who can forget the tune that goes with 755-2525?

Now that Pizza Hut has converted to a 1-300 one-nation-one-number, a similar tune is used for 1-300-88-2525. Very clever. That's the only fast-food delivery number I can remember.

For the life of me, I can't recall the telephone numbers for Domino's Pizza or MacDonald's Delivery, though both companies advertise their numbers through the same means: catchy jingles. During the period when the commercials were aired on TV and radio, sure, even my 5-year old can sing along to the beat. But now that the heat has died down, nobody remembers those numbers. The only one that kept reverberating in the mind is that 2525 ditty.

Last weekend, I was trying to call Domino's for dinner. "What's the number?" I asked. My kids can't remember, my husband can't remember, my nephew and niece can't remember, my brother-and-sister-in-law can't remember. Finally, after some attempts to sing out the tune which invariably ended up with 2525, my niece's memory was jogged and she managed to recall it.

Domino's and McD's commercials were too much of a copycat to Pizza Hut's to create an impact. I figure they should resort to something a little different. Cut out those jingles. Go for rap or something more original. Really, how many cathy jingles do they expect us to remember?

Just for the record, Domino's Delivery is 1-300-888-333 and McD's is 1-300-13-1300. And no, those numbers didn't come to me in a flash of inspiration. I got them from their websites.

Though I can remember Pizza Hut's number very well, I prefer to call Domino's because they are cheaper and they have a half-hour delivery guarantee.  They used to give out RM5 voucher if they're late but nowadays they make it up with a regular pizza voucher for the next order. I've collected a number of those vouchers. The trick, and this is an insider tip from a delivery boy, is to order during peak season which is end of the month or beginning of the month when people get their salaries.  Now that World Cup is just a few days away, it will be a good time to nab those freebies but you have to call at peak hours, say from 6.30 pm onwards.

You are so right. The 2525 tune is the only one stuck to my head too. Just like the kilometrico pen tune and the charlie chickadee tune amongst others. Maybe we pakat and call them at the same time so it becomes peak! ;)

Yes, the 7552525 tune still rings in my head everytime I see the Pizza Hut ad on the tele…. However, I support Domino’s these days – so, thanks for the tip for the RM5 vouchers!

I hope Pizza Hut and Domino’s are paying you commission for advertising them. What more, phone numbers and vouchers as well? Just make sure these mega franchises read your article. They can afford to reward you! :-)

mg, we’ll all have to be from the same location but it’s a good idea.

Grace, After 7pm better I think.

    Judy, Free advertorial service, haha.

    Sharon, takbolehlah.

Yeah, I remember only Pizza Huts number as well…and yet (like you) I also prefer Dominos. Funny that they’ve got an easy-to-remember number and yet it’s so hard for us to remember. I am sure 1300882525 is harder to remember than 1300888333, right? But NNNOOOOO….we can only remember the 2525 jingle, right? :-)

Dominos got better pizzas, by the way and i love their 30 min guarantee too! Erm…maybe having a Dominos delivery center just opposite the condo may have somethieng to do with my preference!

    Tee hee hee….

Hahaha! I can never recall telephone numbers…I rely on my handphone and speed dial too often! And sometimes, I still unconsciously dialled 755-2525 to call for a pizza!

marsha, staying opposite Domino’s might mean you’ll never get the freebie for late delivery!

EW, don’t want to key numbers into handphone… that’s temptation at a dial.

Ask for a fridge magnet the next time you order from them. It has their number on them. No need to crack so hard. :)

    I agree with you that the 2525 is a so powerful. I can still remember the entire jingle 755 2525 755 2525 x 4 pizza hut delivery…. :D

Allyfeel, it’s when you’re away from home and want to call for pizza delivery that’s the problem. At home, there’s the phone book, and the fridge magnet :)

I call Dominos, Pizza Hut and McD on a regular basis that even my kids can remember the number (helped by the tunes/jingles). My home phone, mobile number and office number are all in their database!! Domino’s used to give these vouchers for each delivery – collect 3 and you get a free pizza. I had lots of free pizza!

My son had an idea- to waylay the delivery boys, or to turn off the lights at the apartment’s main entrances – so they lose their way and arrive late:P
