1st Bloggiversary

1st-anniversary.jpgI didn’t think this blog would make it to its first anniversary. Well, it did. Exactly one year ago, I published my first blog entry. In the span of one year, this blog has had a few make-overs, shifted house once and a couple of times it was in danger of being sent to Blog-o-Grave. (Please excuse the mixed metaphors.) Still I plodded on, encouraged by a small circle of readers.

Just how small is this circle? It started with a clutch, then it slowly expanded its perimeter. Now visitors average about 100 per day with an average page view of 200. If I take the average based on a 5-day work week, the figures are of course much higher as the blogosphere winds down on weekends.

The number of page views peaked when I ran the Suggest-a-title contest for my book : 965! On days that my articles ran in Star’s Mind Our English column, the site meter also spikes as I mention my blog in the plug. Then it’ll hover over the 300-400 range. Sometimes when I’m hardworking, I’d post my latest entry on Petaling Street to lure more readers. I got proof that sex sells when I posted Mrs. Malaprop’s Nipples on Petaling Street. That day, the number of page views burst through 800!

In October last year, when I ran a check on how much my blog was worth, it came up with a big fat ZERO. Today it’s a different picture.

My blog is worth $23,146.14.
How much is your blog worth?

That’s a quantum leap from nada. Sure, Life’s Like That isn’t as popular as blogs which generate thousands of hits per day, but that’s all right.  I’m not in that league.  To be honest, I was tempted to throw in the towel when readership was limbo-rock low.  Why blog when so few people read it in the first place?

I want to be read. A writer is nothing without readers. So, to all you faithful readers and regular commenters of this blog, I would like to say a heart felt THANK YOU for keeping Life’s Like That going.

  10. [...] I couldn’t resist the tag surfer today.  I’ve been blessed with a day off, and instead of using my time wisely to get caught up on any of the many things I am behind on, I find myself tag surfing the blogosphere.  I can’t help myself.  It is like a big party, I get to mingle and meet interesting people.  The difference is that I don’t have to get dressed up and I don’t have to talk to anyone unless I really want to.  Today I ‘met’ Lydia Teh who is celebrating her 1st bloggiversary.  She introduced me to Dane at Business Opportunities who created this neat little applet that will tell you how much your blog is worth.  [...]

  12. Hey all, thanks for the well wishes.
