I’m writing a feature article for Her World on “When Kids Go Antisocial.” I’m looking for Malaysian mothers above 30 who have children old enough to use gadgets (mobile phones, iPods and PSPs) and who can relate to these situations :
- At the dinner table, kids are busy sms-ing away.
- At family gatherings, the children play PSP and other IT games.
I’m looking for three mothers (of different races – you know la, we’re a muhibah nation) to interview. This can be done over the phone or email. Mugshots required. If you’re interested, please email me at tehlydia@yahoo.com. Please respond before 27 January. Thanks!

I know a Singaporean woman here whose six-year-old daughter plays with a Gameboy thing when she accompanies her mum to other folk’s houses. It keeps her busy and out of mischief apparently.
Recently, was amazed to meet two teenagers (boy, 14, and girl, 16) who engage in conversation with adults at the dinner table. Their mum is American and dad German.
Argus, it’s hard to find people willing to be interviewed for such an article. From the response so far, most of our kids aren’t anti-social in that regard.
Hey Lydia, no I did not drop here to offer myself as a candidate..he he. Maybe on another topic perhaps if you needed my opinion perhaps…
But I’m here specially to wish you and family:
GING XI FA CAI
Take care.
I meant drop by..he he.
Gong Xi Fa Xai Lydia! and no am not offering myself to be interviewed either.
Aunty Chong Foo, 新年快乐!
Heh.. My bros sound like anti-social kids at times (play psp during family gatherings…) but my mom’s sg-rean
Ruby and Kak Teh, thanks for the well wishes. I was too busy to post anything for a long time.
Ruiqi, if your mum’s Malaysian, I could interview her
Happy Chinese New Year to you and your family.
Hi Lydia – my comment is not exactly about kids but… don’t you hate it when you travel across town to meet with your friend or colleague (and in London this is no mean feat!) and they spend the whole time on their mobile phone or checking their emails on their Blackberry or SMSing? Some adults need to grow up, it seems to me!
Hi Yang-May, I hope these adults have kids of their own who’ll act just like they do. Nothing like getting a taste of their own medicine for reality to hit.
